Eight Steaua Bucharest fans in prison for a month
To serve one month out of the total of 18 that was imposed on each of them, the Criminal Court of Serres decided for the eight Romanian fans of Steaua Bucharest who were arrested in Promachona, on their way to Thessaloniki in view of the match with PAOK for the Europa League.
They were found guilty of possession of a weapon under the aggravated provisions of the Sports Law, as well as of violence against officials, because they resisted the arrest process.
The eight Romanians, aged 31 to 54, were traveling in a van type vehicle when, arriving last Wednesday afternoon, at the Promahona border station, they were checked by passport control officers and found in their possession a knife and a metal rod.
The judges who examined the case with the automatic procedure did not suspend or convert the sentence and decided to serve part of it immediately – in this case 1 of the total 18 months (for the rest it was decided to grant an appeal).
With the same decision, the court imposed a fine of 1200 euros on each, and decided to ban them from watching football matches in Greece for the next 2 years.
According to police sources, the condemned were already taken to the Serres Nigritas Detention Center.
