What are the entry requirements for the home owner program?
Applications for the participation in the house renovation program – which will then be made available for rent to households that are in precarious housing or in a state of homelessness, can be submitted from today, October 10, until January 31, by owners in the administrative boundaries of the Municipality of Athens.
The program “Social housing for the most vulnerable groups” is implemented by the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family in collaboration with the Municipality of Athens with a total funding of 1,032,114.00 euros from the resources of the National Recovery and Reconstruction Plan “Greece 2.0”.
The Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Sofia Zaharakis emphasizes about the new housing program: “The reduction of inequalities, social cohesion and the practical support of vulnerable households are for the government and our ministry a necessary condition when we talk about development. Social housing is one of the main pillars of our housing policy for which a total of almost 5 billion euros will be allocated until the end of ’25. Through a series of housing programs that cover many different needs of households and individuals, the state comes and recognizes the acute social problem and offers immediate help to those who are most in need».
What the program provides for owners and beneficiaries
The program subsidizes the renovation of a total of seventy (70) homes and their owners will be subsidized with up to 10,055 euros for the renovation of their apartment, which they will rent out for a minimum of four (4) years.
Beneficiaries of the program are owners or beneficiaries of real estate with residential use for one (1) or more of their properties, provided that:
Own or usufruct the property by a percentage equal to or greater than fifty percent (50%),
The property has an area of ​​thirty-five (35) to one hundred and twenty (120) square meters (sq. m) and is located in a residential area,
The property is legally existing and non-demolitionable
The property has not been declared as a first residence, has not been declared as rented and is declared as vacant on the E2 form accompanying the income tax return of the last six months.

The beneficiaries of the program, who will be housed in the renovated apartments, should:
Be beneficiaries of either the “Housing and Work for the Homeless” program or the OPECA housing allowance
Do not own a first home.
To live within the administrative boundaries of the Municipality of Athens or are citizens of the Municipality.
The evaluation of the applications will be done through scoring and based on income and social criteria, as these will be specified in the relevant invitation.
