The new agreement on the cessation of hostilities is expected to start on October 14, according to the UNICEF statement
Humanitarian ceasefires in the war in the Gaza Strip have been agreed to allow the second round of polio vaccinations for 590,000 children under the age of 10 to proceed on October 14, its executive director said today. UNICEF Kathryn Russell.
“Ceasefires of hostilities were agreed for humanitarian reasons in certain areas. It is important that these pauses are respected by all parties. Without them, it is impossible to vaccinate children,” Russell emphasized in a statement.
The first round of the polio vaccination campaign in Gaza Stripwhich began on Sept. 1, has met its goal of vaccinating 90 percent of children under 10, the United Nations said. The campaign was carried out in phases over a two-week period during humanitarian ceasefires between Israel and Hamas.
On August 23, Mr WHERE confirmed that at least one infant became paralyzed after contracting polio. This was the first case in the Gaza Strip in 25 years.
“UNICEF will include vitamin A supplements to strengthen children’s immune systems. “Children in Gaza live in extremely poor sanitary conditions,” said Russell.
“With the additional vaccine equipment and portable refrigerators that arrived yesterday, UNICEF is ready to deliver and vaccinate children to stop the transmission of polio,” he said. “The success of the first round shows that when agreements are kept, we can complete our mission.”
