H production of 3 million electric vehicles rolled off the production line of its mega-industrial factory on Friday Tesla at Shanghaiachieving a new milestone, given the American company’s commitment to the development of China’s new energy sector.

Tesla’s mega-industrial facility in Shanghai is the first industrial facility of this size that the American company has outside the United States.

Construction of the plant began in 2019, while the first electric vehicle rolled off the production line in December of the same year.

The vehicle that marked the completion of Tesla’s production of 3 million vehicles in Shanghai was a Model Y, which rolled off the production line on Friday afternoon at 18:00 (local time), the American company announced.

Tesla’s mega-manufacturing unit completed the production of one million vehicles in a period of more than 30 months, while it took about 13 months to reach the production target of 2 million to 3 million vehicles.

In the three quarters of 2024, the Shanghai plant delivered 675,000 vehicles, accounting for more than 50% of the company’s global deliveries in the same period, according to Tesla’s announcement.

A third of the vehicles produced at the same mega-factory were sold in markets outside mainland China, including Europe, but also countries from the Asia-Pacific region, Tesla announced.
