“This great day is not only a day of celebration. It is also a day of remembrance and reflection”, its leader emphasizes, among other things COME ONlieutenant general Dimitrios Mallios, in his agenda for the celebration of the national anniversary of October 28th 1940.

At the same time, the leader of ELAS notes in his message that self-sacrifice and heroism are concepts inextricably linked to the character of the Greek.

The agenda of the Leader of ELAS in detail:

“Men and women of the Greek Police,

On October 28, 1940, the pendulum of history was once again calling the Greek people to the familiar rendezvous for the fight for Freedom. Our proud and heroic people have been consistent as always, in a unique and insurmountable way.

October 28th is the day that our Greece single-mindedly and unwaveringly refused enslavement and servitude, refused the Italian fascists’ bitter claim for the surrender of our national territory. He treated with disparaging indifference the would-be conqueror’s military strength, economic strength, and overwhelming disparity in manpower.

The refusal is sharp and doric. An epic NO. Never has such a small word said so much, never has a people demonstrated such greatness of soul and spirit, verifying the wonderful words of our poet Kostis Palamas that cause shivers of emotion: “The greatness of peoples is not measured by the acre. By the heart the fever is measured and the blood”.

October 28, 1940, this landmark date in the history of the Greek Nation, which we celebrate today, confirmed all that as Greeks, over time, repeatedly and in practice, we have proven:

• that when we are united we can achieve anything,

• that the defense of dignity and honor is not a matter of choice, it is our duty and a national need,

• that the love for the Motherland, freedom and democracy is unlimited and deeply engraved in our minds and hearts

• that self-denial and heroism are concepts inextricably linked to the character of the Greek.

But this great day is not only a day of celebration. It is also a day of remembrance and reflection. It is necessary to remember and highlight the messages and orders of October 28, 1940, to have them as a guide. Our country succeeds after successive, essentially global crises and in an unstable international security environment, to emerge as a pillar of stability in the south-eastern Mediterranean.

The Hellenic Police has always been an unshakable institution defending national interests, ensuring internal security and legitimacy, protecting the democratic state and social cohesion. Especially in this period, we are carrying out actions with a strong social sign to deal with, within the framework of our multidimensional mission, the phenomena of violence between minors, within the family and in the field of sports, which take an extreme form.

I invite you, all united to continue with the same consistency, with the same vigor and self-sacrifice to fulfill our national and social mission. Happy birthday everyone!”
