Two men (one Greek and one Pakistani) were arrested on Wednesday in Thessaloniki for smuggling cigarettes.

Specifically yesterday at noon officers of the Regional Drug Prosecution Team of the Central Port Authority of Thessaloniki, (P.O.D.I.N.) arrested the 48-year-old Greek and the 30-year-old from Pakistan, for violation of Law 2960/01 “National Customs Code ” and article 45 of the Criminal Code “Collaboration”.

How were the two perpetrators arrested?

In particular, in the context of utilizing information and following discreet surveillance, the 48-year-old was spotted arriving with an E.I.X. vehicle outside the “KAPANI” market in the center of Thessaloniki and attempt to deliver to the 30-year-old a black plastic bag, which contained a carton with a total of five hundred and forty (540) packs of contraband cigarettes of various brands.

The tobacco products were seized and are to be handed over to the 3rd Customs House of Thessaloniki to calculate the amount of missing duties and taxes, while the E.I.X. vehicle, the two mobile telephone devices of the arrested persons as well as the sum of fifty euros (€50) from the foreigner, which is to be deposited in the Deposit and Loan Fund.

A preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Central Port Authority of Thessaloniki, while the 30-year-old had been imposed a restrictive condition of appearance at the AT. of his area of ​​residence.
