Without tensions in Athens, the march for the 51st anniversary of the Polytechnic was completed with the authorities still making 150 arrests and 7 arrests
Vehicle traffic in the center of Athens is proceeding normally, as, according to the latest information from ELAS, the traffic regulations that were in place have been lifted due to the march for the 51st anniversary of the Polytechnic University.
The Police made 150 arrests and 7 arrests after checks carried out in various areas of the center of Athens before the start of the march.
Without tensions in Athens, the mass march was completed.
Student associations with central slogans “The Polytechnic lives in struggles calls us” and “Freedom in Palestine”, organizations, SYRIZA-PS, PASOK-Change Movement, Freedom Movement, New Left, MERA25, extra-parliamentary parties and organizations Left, labor unions and collectives of the anti-authoritarian space gathered in Omonia and University and headed to the American embassy and then to the Israeli embassy.
The rally was led by the Association of Imprisoned Exiled Resistance Fighters 1967-1974 holding a banner with the slogan “Resistance forever to fascism”.
At the same time, a massive anti-imperialist march with central slogans “The Polytechnic is alive, the Americans are out”, “Neither land, nor water, for the murderers of the peoples”, “The murderers of the peoples are Americans”, “A century of struggle and sacrifice, the KKE in the vanguard”, carried out the KKE targeting the Israeli embassy. Along the way, the “present” was given by the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the KKE, D. Koutsoumpas.
Earlier, when the gates of the Polytechnic were closed, student associations holding a large Palestinian flag rallied and marched to the statue of Kolokotronis waiting for the main volume of the demonstration to begin. The SYRIZA-PS bloc included, among others, the president of K.O. Nikos Pappas, in the PASOK-Movement of Change bloc was led by the party’s president, Nikos Androulakis, while the president of Pleusis Eleftherias, Zoe Konstantopoulou, also participated.
A separate march was made by the PASP “bloc” with the blood-stained flag of the Polytechnic. Students – members of PASP who accompanied the historical flag arrived shortly before 15:30 in front of the Polytechnic University, unfurled the blood-stained flag, shouted slogans such as “brothers live, you lead us” and continued their march towards the American embassy.
