A criminal organization was dismantled, by the Internal Affairs Service of the Security Forces, whose members were active in the trafficking of narcotic substances, in various areas of Achaia, with the aim of obtaining an illegal financial benefit.

For the case -9- members of the organization were arrested, among them -4- Civil Servants, as well as another non-memberwhile a case file was filed against them – as the case may be – for criminal organization, drugs and weapons.

Additional, the file that was formed also includes -30- non-members, of which -4- are civil servants (a policeman, a fireman and two local government officials).

In particular, following a complaint investigation, with the application of special investigative techniques, it emerged that the members had founded and joined a hierarchically structured criminal organization, at least since May 2024, and were active in drug trafficking.

How they acted – The roles

As it emerged from the careful research and the combined study of the pre-investigative material, the members acted with a specific mode of action (modus operandi) and distinct roles as follows:

  • A private individual, a leading member of the organization, was in charge of storing the drugs, separating them and further distributing them to the other members. He also trafficked quantities of drugs to customers himself.
  • A private person, he supplied another member with quantities of drugs, having the role of the organization’s main supplier.
  • A District employee, deputy leader of the organization, supplied drugs to the other members, while he was the main trafficker, acting, in fact, within his workplace, with clients of other employees.
  • Another University employee, received orders mainly from the above, who happens to be his relative. They procured quantities from the chief and distributed them to the customers. Likewise, he carried out buying and selling within his workplace.
  • A private citizen and a fireman were the main traffickers of the organization.
  • A private person, a relative of the leader, had assumed the role of a transporter of the drugs, which he delivered to customers.
  • An employee of E.K.A.B., he had the role of intermediary through telephone communications for buying and selling.
  • A private person, he had the role of a trafficker, while he kept a store, in which he stored the narcotics.

The code names

The members of the organization, in order to achieve their illegal purpose, took strict self-protection measures, using coded words during their communication, which took place mainly through social networking applications, while, at the same time, they carried out the buying and selling in places that would avoid their detection.

Some of the phrases they used are indicative, such as “fresh”meaning new supply of narcotic substance, “Champions League”when referring to a good quality narcotic, they used the word “bet”meaning drug dealing. With the “half”, “one” and “gift” they were referring to the quantity of drugs.

At the same time, the word “beer” was used when referring to the drug cannabis, as was the word “black”.

Coded phrases were used when talking about sums of money as well.

The phrases are indicative:

  • “Forty” = narcotic substance against the monetary amount of forty euros,
  • “twenty” = narcotic substance for the amount of twenty euros,
  • “Ten” = narcotic substance for the sum of ten euros,

To dismantle the organization, a coordinated operation was carried out at noon on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, during which the leader of the organization was initially identified when he approached a vehicle and was arrested.

In fact, the driver of the vehicle (not a member of the organization), as soon as he noticed the policemen, rejected a package containing -1.8- grams. of cocaine, and was arrested for drug law violations.

What did the investigations find?

This was followed by the arrest of the remaining members of the organization, while in searches carried out on vehicles and houses in total, the following were found and confiscated:

  • -74.07- grams cocaine,
  • -143.5- grams cannabis,
  • -42- medicinal tablets,
  • grater,
  • -7,425- euros,
  • -3- precision scales,
  • air gun,
  • folding bar,
  • -12- mobiles,
  • number of SIM cards,
  • vehicle and
  • -3- motorcycles.

Drug trafficking ring in Achaia

From the investigations so far, the involvement of the members in at least -194- cases of drug trafficking has been certified.

Those arrested were taken to the competent prosecuting authority.
