The difficult situation faced by people with visual impairments on the streets of Athens was highlighted by Mr Takis Alexandrakis, by posting it on social media.

The video shows the moment Takis Alexandris tries to cross the sidewalk and a double bed mattress stands in his way.

In the post description it says:

Trying to move-sleep on the sidewalk!

Here’s the description from an artificial intelligence program for the visually impaired: The video starts with a man, about 40-50 years old, with gray hair and a beard, dressed in a dark jacket and carrying a backpack. He stands on a narrow sidewalk in Athens, talking to the camera. The weather seems mild, perhaps spring-like, and the sun is shining.

There are sounds of traffic on a nearby street.

The man says he’s trying to walk in Athens and comments on an old mattress lying on the sidewalk near trash cans. The mattress is white-grey and looks used. The man shows it to the camera and says it’s a “nice mattress” with humor, suggesting that anyone who wants it should take it. His posture is relaxed, and his facial expression friendly, with a hint of irony.

At the end, he walks closer to the mattress holding a white cane. The sound of his voice remains calm. The camera moves, showing different angles of the mattress and pavement. The video ends with the man saying that it’s worth it for someone to get it. The overall vibe of the video is relaxed and a bit spontaneous».
