MasterChef judge sells candy that imitates R$36 million banana art for R$70

by

A banana attached to a wall with tape caused controversy when it was sold last month as a work of art for R$36 million by a Chinese entrepreneur — who ate the fruit.

Inspired by the play, pastry chef Diego Lozano created his own version: a dessert that imitates a banana, made with crunchy coconut mousse, almond biscuit, passion fruit jelly and, of course, banana.

Named “That’s not an art!”, the sweet was already sold at his confectionery, Levena, in Pinheiros. The creation, one of the most popular on the menu, was redesigned and gained a white chocolate coating painted silver, to imitate the work’s adhesive tape, designed by the Italian Maurizio Cattelan.

The price has also been updated, and the dessert is sold for R$70 — almost double the original price.

Lozano, elected pastry chef of the year by the special O Melhor de São Paulo Gastronomia 2023, opened his own restaurant in the capital of São Paulo last year. He participates as a judge in the first edition of MasterChef Confeitaria, currently on display.
