The traditional train at Pelionthe “Smudgy“, derailed this Saturday afternoon.

The accident happened after the De Chirico bridge, near Milea station, where a rock fell on the railway line. As a result, the last wagon derailed, after one axle left the line.

The 37 passengers of “Moutzouri” were transported to Lechonia railway station by buses hired by the municipality of South Pelion and Hellenic train.

The mayor of South Pelion, Michalis Mitzikos, opened Mileon station for passengers to stay until the return buses arrive. All passengers are in good health.

As the train was close to Milies, those passengers who wished walked to their destination, accompanied by police and Hellenic Train staff. There they were offered lunch and then a bus will take them to Ano Lechonia.

At the same time, the company’s technicians, who were on the train, made an effort to bring the carriage back onto the tracks and after checking and evaluating the situation, the route will continue, empty of passengers, to Milies.
