Thessaloniki entered Hollywood rhythms from today, for the cinematic shooting of the movie “The Bricklayer” that begins, transforming the alleys of the center into a Hollywood set.
Feverish preparations are already underway since the morning by production crews, which shape Agiou Minas and Edessa streets, in order to be scenes of the filming.
As you can see in his photos and video GRTimes Emporiou Square on Agiou Minas Street has been transformed into a market setting, with various tables, stalls with old objects, a popcorn machine, while a little further down on Edessis Street a booth has been set up for the needs of filming.
We remind you that from today at 17:00 the traffic regulations are in force, which prohibit parking and crossing the streets, Ionos Dragoumi, Agios Minas, Edessa, Katouni and Olympiou Diamantis, while the production has warned passers-by that it will shootings take place.
This is the 3rd film of the production company, after “The Enforcer” (“Barracuda”) and “The Expendables 4”, which will be shot in Thessaloniki during the last year, but the first with a plot that is evolving in the city, showing internationally the modern identity and its extroversion.
The shooting of the film will take place in the studios of Millennium, in Thermi, but also in all of Thessaloniki and other areas of Central Macedonia, such as Halkidiki.

The background of this spy thriller will be Aristotelous Square, Emporiou Square, Kapani, the alleys and the walls of Ano Poli, as well as the facilities of the Airport and the Metro. The film is based on the book of the same name by Noah Boyd, which is based in Berlin, so the producers changed the script to develop in Thessaloniki and Central Macedonia, presenting the region as a film destination in the global audiovisual market.
Greek actors and stuntmen will take part in the film, while for the shooting, which will last about two months, about 3,000 auxiliary actors will be used. At the same time, many Greek professionals from various fields will work, who were trained in the previous period and specialized in the field of film producers.
A few words about the plot of the film:
In “The Bricklayer” someone blackmails the CIA by killing foreign journalists, making it look like the Service is responsible. As the world begins to unite with the United States, the CIA recalls its top – but also revolutionary – agent, forcing him to face his adventurous past as he uncovers an international conspiracy.
The screenplay is written by Hanna Weg (Septembers of Shiraz) and Matt Johnson (Into the Blue).
Directed by Renny Harlin, who has directed the films “Die Hard 2”, “Cliffhanger” and “Long Kiss Goodnight”, among others.
Bricklayer will be played by Aaron Eckhart and Nina Dobrev will be at his side.
