Deputy Minister of Health, Mr. Marios Themistocleshe paid a visit to Thira General Hospital today, accompanied by the President of EKAB, Mr. Nikolaos Papaefstathiou, the Commander of the 2nd Ministry of Education. Theodoropoulou, the Commander of the General Hospital of Thira, Mr. Konstantinos Patsouras and the Director of Medical Services of EKAB, Mr. Dimitrios Pyrrhos.

The purpose of the visit was to evaluate and enhance the hospital’s preparations to address seismic phenomena. Specifically, Mr. Themistokleous met with the administration and medical staff of the Hospital, where the existing emergency plans and the possibilities of improvement were discussed.

During the visit, Mr. Themistokleous attended the evacuation of the General Hospital of Thera, which was successfully carried out in the context of the preparation for emergencies. He also visited the hospital facilities, focusing on infrastructure associated with seismic events, and also discussed staff.

The Deputy Minister of Health said: “The preparation of our health structures for natural disasters, such as earthquakes, is vital.

We are committed to ensuring that our hospitals are ready to respond effectively to such challenges, protecting citizens’ health and safety. In the case of Santorini, we have already reinforced the Thira General Hospital with additional doctors and rescuers, and in the event of a major earthquake, six groups from the EKAB Special Medical Department and from the 2nd RU, are on alert for immediate support. ”
