Shortly after noon, today, the 21 -year -old’s transfer operation was completed in the White Mountains of Chania by a group of volunteers. The operation began on Friday afternoon by a team of EMAK with the head of the Anopolis Fire Brigade, who managed to reach the rough point where the corpse was found and transporting it to a nearby matto. From there, a helicopter was transported to 115 AM and then to Rethymnon Hospital where a forensic examination will be performed.

From the first moment the corpse was identified by the volunteer group, it was certain that it was the 21 -year -old German tourist, whose traces had disappeared in the past, due to the point where he was found, as well as the clothes and objects found on the spot.

It should be noted that to identify the young man, who had left the vehicle he had rented near the entrance of the Samaria Gorge, a multi -day business had been set up with the participation of his family.

Thanks to the family

A moving post was made yesterday by members of his family where they thanked all those who contributed to the investigations and say that as all the evidence shows, the unfortunate young man lost his life in exhaustion and cold.

In detail the post

Our little brother Johann had an accident on 13.02.2025 in the White Mountains in Crete. Yesterday, on 13.03.2025, a group of six local climbers, in agreement with us, began looking for Johann. They spent the night in a mountain shelter and found Johann dead this morning, on March 14, 2025. The autopsy is still pending, but everything shows that he is suffering from extreme cold and exhaustion. He managed to successfully pass all the difficult places on the road, eventually turned around on the road.

We loved Johann, he is so important to us and the pain for his loss is infinitely. He leaves a big gap – to us, his family, friends and colleagues and acquaintances. It will be in our hearts for a lifetime and we will miss us terribly.

Once again, we would like to thank all those who participated in the search. It meant a lot to us that so many volunteers offered to come with us. Without you it would not be possible to find Johann. A special thank you to the climbers who found Johann this morning!

We would also like to thank all those who were checked with us, for the kind messages, for the many implicit.

Our little brother Johann had a tragic accident in the White Mountains of Crete on February 13, 2025. A group of six local mountaineer volunteers began looking for Johann yesterday, March 13, 2025, in coordination with us. They spent the night in a mountain shelter and found Johann this morning, February 14, sadly dead. The autopsy is still pending, but everything shows that it has succumbed to extreme cold and exhaustion. He managed to successfully tour all the difficult points of the route, but in the end he collapsed on the trail.

We deeply loved Johann, it meant everything to us, and the pain of his loss is incalculable. He leaves behind him a huge gap – for us, his family, his friends, his colleagues and all who knew him. We will keep him in our hearts for the rest of our lives and we will be missing terribly.

We want to express our cordial gratitude to all those involved in the research. It meant so much for us that so many volunteers came to help. Without you, Johann’s finding would not be possible. A special thank you to the climbers who found him this morning!

We also want to thank all those who have supported us this time – for your kind messages, for all the tips and information you shared and kept Johann in your thoughts.
