The Municipality of Athens secured funding from the Green Fund of EUR 2,011,280 for the project “Study and Works to Restore and Promotion of the Western Hills of the Acropolis”.

It is noted that the redevelopment of the Filopappus hill and the western hills has already begun with significant restoration and upgrading work, with their design and implementation by the company “National Garden – Metropolitan Green SA” of the Municipality of Athens in collaboration with the Directorate of Green.

Specifically took place:

– Cutting and removing 400 dry trees.

– Pruned (about 30% removal of herbal mass) 320 olives planted in 1952-1953 by Dimitris Pikionis.

– Cleaning slopes and opening the rainwater ditch from Garivaldi Street to the intersection of Orlov and Panetoliou streets on Filopappou Hill, to deal with flooding phenomena.

The projects were implemented in the context of the “cultural upgrading” of the western hills. Within 2025, the planting of at least 500 trees are planned and important infrastructure projects in the area.

The Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, commenting on funding, said that “he will cover studies and necessary infrastructure, refurbishment and protection projects, as well as upgrading his urban equipment.
