Saint Akakios the young, the firewood
Saint Akakios lived and brought up in the dark times of the Turkish occupation. He was born a few years after 1630 AD, in the village of Golsa of Agrafa, the (then) province of Fanari and Neochori, in the present community of Agios Akakios in the Prefecture of Karditsa. His parents, pious and virtuous Christians, with their work succeeded in those difficult years to secure their lives needed with self -sufficiency and affectionately dedicated to the upbringing of their two children given by God. But the father’s premature death shocked the family and overshadowed their happiness.
Anastasios, this was the secular name of Saint, remained orphaned at a very young age. Their mother, with her deep Christian faith and piety, struggles and takes on her own the burden of family responsibility. She works unknowingly to maintain her two minor children and raise them with the Education and the Lord’s mind.
Soon, he was also on his wife, was also found by little Anastasios, to take over a part of the responsibility for the maintenance of his family.
The speech of the Gospel had shocked the heart of Anastasios early and the flame of divine love warmed his childhood soul. He felt vigorously and very strongly the slope and zeal towards lonely life. That is why he avoided the noise of the world and often sought quiet in deserted places. There, devoted to God, he had all his time in prayer and fasting. Soon he decided to abandon the worldly and at the age of twenty -three, he left the parts of Zagora Volos. He ended up in the monastery of Sourvia, built by Saint Dionysius in Olympus, located in the area of Makrinitsa Volos and dedicated to the Holy Trinity.
When he arrived at the monastery, he was welcomed with kindness. He was presented to the abbot and with all his respect he mentioned the purpose of his visit. He heard him carefully and explained in every detail the difficulties of lonely life, but also the rigorous program of the monastery. Anastasios, however, insisted, promising that with the help of God he would overcome all obstacles and respond to the duties set by the lonely state.
The abbot, as an experienced spiritual, diagnosed Anastasios’ inherent zeal and found his unmoved and steady decision to unite. So he accepted him in the monastery. There Anastasios Ekaris monk by the name of Akakios. And the same night that the angelic form was accepted and the lonely garment surrounded, it was claimed with divine vision. He saw as if he was in his hands a lit candle, which had a lightweight light and illuminated the whole place.
Saint Akakios predicted and predicted his death to all the submissives who were near him. But especially to Monk Athanasios, who arrived in the cave of Saint from the Skete of St. Anne to receive his wish, he said: “I now Athanasius, I go to a long time and we will no longer see each other. Have the wish of Our Lady. ” These were his last words. He then blessed the four points of the horizon and slept with peace on Sunday of the Myrrh, in the year 1730 AD. and at about a hundred years old.
