Thessaloniki: Reprimand to minors who posted videos with their half-naked classmate

by

The relaxed conversation of the two teenage classmates through a popular internet application took an unexpected turn, when he sent her a very personal photo, asking his interlocutor to do the same.

«With threat“Otherwise she would have spread a bad reputation for me at school,” the 15-year-old later confessed to her mother, when the latter complained to police that photos and videos of her daughter appearing almost naked ended up on her classmates’ cell phones.

The minor suspected that something strange was happening because she had long noticed her classmates looking at her strangely.

In September 2019, nine months after the initial dispatch of the material in question, the (then) 15-year-old’s suspicions were confirmed, when a friend and classmate, in an attempt to protect her, sent to her personal account, on a social networking site, a video depicting her half-naked.

Following a complaint to the Cybercrime Prosecution of Northern Greece, the case was investigated and reached the hearing of the Single-Member Juvenile Court of Thessaloniki, where four minors were referred to trial at that time, most of whom were victims of the victim’s material.

According to the indictment, photos or videos – described as pornographic content – were sent to an unknown number of people, mostly from their school environment in Thessaloniki, but also in the area where he was vacationing, in Halkidiki.

Judging the case in camera, the Court found them guilty and punished them with the punishment of reprimand (this is the most lenient of the so-called rehabilitative / therapeutic measures provided by law for minors).

They themselves, in their apologies, gave their own explanations and seem to have appeared remorseful, apologizing to the victim.

The victim’s mother testified in court, who narrated the events, noting -among other things- that her daughter turned to a child psychologist for follow-up.
