While most people imagine what their lives would be away from the city, the Sotiris Cypriot and Marianna Kontis They didn’t stay in the words. They did it 30 years ago. They gathered their things, closed the door of Athens and opened a completely different in nature, at sea and in a new daily, full of skiing.
Sotiris Cypriot was one of those children you could not easily keep away from water. He grew up with water skiing, loved it and decided to do so and put many medals in his resume.
He found his own “home” in Poros where he opened his school and also met his wife Marianna who, while vacationing, went to school to take some ski lessons. “I came for the summer, but eventually I fell in love … Sotiris and stayed here,” he reveals speaking on the show “Where there is Greece”.
Together they made their hobby and created the Water Ski Resort Drepani, a space in the Galata scythe that combines sport, hospitality and a lifestyle that rotates around the water.
Their son, Philip Cypriot, not only followed their footsteps, but overcame them. Champion of Greece in water skiing, with discrimination at European and global level, and author of a book about racing ski. “At first I didn’t even want to see the skiing. They were sending me for training for punishment. But somewhere in my seven, I loved it. And since then I didn’t stop.”
“We never missed the city,” Marianna tells me. “Here we have our family, our work and our passion in one.” “Ski,” Sotiris adds, “it’s like a restart. Every time you get into the water, you start from the beginning. And I don’t change that with anything.”
