The Deputy Prosecutor ruled that the decision of the Three -Member Court of Appeals is insufficiently justified and with incorrect interpretation of legal provisions
Supreme Court’s deputy prosecutor Achilleas Zisis appealed to the case of former PASOK Minister Yiannos Papantoniou for the modernization of six Greek Navy frigates.
The prosecutor ruled that the exemption of the Three -Member Court of Appeals was insufficiently justified and allegedly identified an incorrect interpretation of some legal provisions.
In September 2024, Ioannis Papantoniou was unanimously found innocent due to doubts about the equipment programs.
The court ruled that there was not sufficient evidence of guilt for the crime of bribery or infidelity and therefore – since there is no basic crime – there is no money laundering.
The case will now be led to the Criminal Department of the Supreme Court and – if appealed – the former minister will sit back in the dock for money laundering, along with his wife Stavroula Kourakou and the couple’s close friend Andrea Bardi.
