“Every day we have 70 to 80 arrests for abuses of women and children in the context of family coexistence,” said Citizen Protection Ministry.
The treatment of increasing incidents of domestic violence, mainly in women and children, was at the heart of the speech of the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoid, from Xanthi where he was found this morning.
According to figures presented by the Minister, in 2024 there was an 88% increase in domestic violence and 90% of the arrests of perpetrators.
“Every day we have 70 to 80 arrests for abuses of women and children in the context of family living. The important thing in these numbers is not that the incidents have increased, but that the complaints have increased, ”said M. Chrysochoidis.
“This is the big victory for us, that the victims are now talking openly, address ELAS, complain about the incidents, and we are called upon to deal with them and provide all protection to these victims,” the minister said.
“It is a debt to a co -ordinated state to protect the weak and in this direction we are implementing specific policies with the operation of domestic violence offices in every police department,” he said.
“A great effort for citizens to feel safe”
In the presence of local bodies and authorities, Mr. Chrysochoidis emphasized the great efforts made daily, not only by the Greek Police but also in the country’s armed forces, both in Xanthi, but in Thrace, but also throughout Greece, so that citizens can feel safe.
“The feeling of security,” the minister emphasized, “is built daily and now we are able to care and ensure defense, security, integrity by extension the development of our country.”
“A new modern police are currently being formed,” Mr. Chrysochoidis stressed, “we have new structure, new education, lifelong education and modern technologies. Our goal is for the Greek Police and the police to be effective. “
The minister made a special mention of the increased crime that had been presenting all these years of the Settlement of Droseros and was directly involved in the operation of the new Organized Crime Management Directorate, serving a total of a thousand (1000) highly trained police officers throughout Greece.
