A stricter framework for traffic offenses is foreseen by the new CMC that was submitted to the House.
In addition to security cameras expected to be launched in September on the streets of Attica, fines will be imposed that will be sent digitally to the drivers offenders through the gov.gr.
If cameras record a breach, the call will be sent to the driver’s house in order to pay the projected administrative fine or to deliver his license and his diploma or even his plates, depending on the offense.
The first major change is mainly about use of mobile while driving. So according to the new framework imposed by the new Road Traffic Code:
- The first time a driver will be caught with the mobile in hand, the fine will be 350 euros and deduction of the diploma for 30 days,
- The second time, that is, if one is caught up to drive with the cell phone in hand, the fine will now be 1000 euros and a diploma removal for 180 days
- The third time the fine will be 2,000 euros and deduction of a diploma for one year
It is worth noting that the new big change is mainly about the bicyclists, since for the first time the young man Road Traffic CodeIt will even provide fines for engine passengers who will not wear the security helmet. Until now, the fine has normally been imposed on the machine rider, that is to say, the driver will now be a fine for someone who goes up a scooter and does not wear the security helmet.
Changes are provided by the new Road Traffic Code for speed limits. The speed limits for traffic in the city are reduced and increased outside urban tissue. Specifically:
- 30 kilometers per hour for small width roads, no islet, for example in neighborhoods in front of houses or schools
- 50 kilometers per hour for basic urban roads with islet and
- 140 kilometers per hour – where the speed limit increases – on motorways, but after consultation and due to the reduction of deadly traffic accidents.
As for improvised struggles, that is, the “skies” that many are set up in various parts of Attica and in various parts of the country, with speed exceeding 200 kilometers per hour, the penalties will escalate as follows:
- In the first infringement one caught up against his vehicle and develop dizzying speed, a fine of 2,000 euros and a diploma removal for 1 year
- In the second time -in case of recurrence -the fine is doubled at 4,000 euros with a license for 2 years
- In the third time, the fine will reach 8,000 euros, while the offender will lack his diploma for 4 years
It is noted that there is a change that is mainly about causing fatal accidents and accidents, where there will even be a connection to the Criminal Code, since if one causes an accident and taking life, if he has consumed alcohol or moving at an excessive speed, he will even have a very serious time.
