The fire broke out on Monday afternoon at Metropolitan Hospital in Holargos.

According to the mayor of the area, Elias Apostolopoulos, who spoke on SKAI’s 100.3 radio, no one is threatened and patients have been transferred to safe places. He added that the fireplace appears to be started from the basement of the hospital.

As it became known by the Fire Brigade, the basement was evacuated, the ground floor, the 1st, the 2nd and 3rd floor of the clinic and all people were removed in a safe place, and there is no reports of trapped or injured so far.

Video with fire showed dense smoke to cover the area.

The Mayor of Papagou-Holargos, Elias Apostolopoulos, was also in the area, watching the evolution of the incident and coordinating the municipality.

The Municipality of Papagou-Holargos appeals to the locals and professionals in the area, who are near the site of the fire to close the windows of their homes or businesses, for precautionary security reasons.

Traffic arrangements in the area

Due to the fire diversions are carried out:

  1. On the side of Mesogeion Avenue from the height of Miltiadou Street, on the stream to Agia Paraskevi
  2. On Socrates Street from the height of Chios Street in the area of Holargos.
