The hot spots which detected the VIIRS (Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite) system of the SUOMI, Noaa-20 and Noaa-21 satellite polar trajectory at 03:00 local August 13th time in Meteo.gr in his post on Facebook.

In a first assessment of the extent of the areas affected by the six great fires in Greece (Achaia, Patras, Chios, Preveza, Philippiada, Preveza) and reach 100,000 acres.

Based on the spatial distribution of hot points, it is estimated that the land affected in the 6 major incidents of fires in the country are as follows:

  • Chios: ~ 40,000 acres
  • Fatal Achaia: ~ 20,000 acres
  • Zakynthos: ~ 17,000 acres
  • Philippiada: ~ 18,000 acres
  • Paliabela Preveza: ~ 2,500 acres
  • Patras: ~ 2,000 acres

It is noted that the numbers given above They do not constitute estimates of burns but the surfaces on which the incidents of the fires have spread. To assess the burnt areas, it is expected to collect and process high resolution satellite data, which will accurately reflect the extent of the burned areas and the presence of unscrupulous islands that cannot be appreciated with the warm points.
