The president of the Cultural Association of Monopigado, Takis Batatolis, saw disgusting images this morning when he visited an area where reforestation had taken place on March 20 at the initiative of the Association and with the participation of dozens of volunteers, as reported in voria.gr.
Some of the trees that had been planted just ten days ago had been uprooted and destroyed.
It is recalled that they had also participated in the tree planting refugees from Ukraine which are hosted by the inhabitants of Monopigado. In fact, the first tree, an olive tree, was planted by refugee children, thus sending a message of Peace, while expressing hope for an immediate end to the war.
As Mr. Batatolis explains On that day, about three hundred trees were planted by the Thessaloniki Forest Service, and the Municipality of Thermi provided the necessary machinery and tools.
“It seems that this nice initiative bothered some unconscious people who destroyed some of the trees we planted. I do not know how to characterize this energy. We will, however, replant trees in these places and ensure that the area is monitored electronically. At the same time, we will immediately make a complaint to the competent authorities so that he or those who took this action can be found. “he stressed.
