The Czech Foreign Ministry today called on Russian diplomats to step down over their country’s invasion of Ukraine in order not to become complicit in the “revealing catastrophe” of a sovereign state.
“Colleagues, we appeal to those of you who have a conscience and who retain the ability to recognize evil: get out of this circle of accomplices,” said the Czech Foreign Ministry, an EU member state. Russian Embassy in Prague.
Relations between the EU and Russia are at an all-time low following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the largest offensive against a European state since World War II.
In a letter first posted on Twitter and then emailed to Reuters by the ministry’s press service, the ministry called on Russian diplomats to abandon a “sinking ship”.
“We call on you, who have a moral and good heart, to abandon, please, this sinking ship, which is attracting the wrath of the people who love freedom all over the world,” the letter said.
The ministry said Russia would face consequences for being responsible for the “revealing catastrophe” of sovereign Ukraine.
The Czech Republic has followed suit in expelling Russian diplomats in recent weeks, some on charges of espionage.
