The “Ariadne” operational plan, which is a multilevel network of prevention, deterrence and suppression of abusive behaviors and criminal acts in public transport, is fully implemented through targeted patrols, controls and coordinated interventions by the Greek Police.

It is recalled that, since the beginning of 2025 the plan was expanded beyond the subway, ISAP and Tram, the suburban rail and urban buses, with a focus on areas with high passenger traffic.

It should be noted that the presence of police within stations, trains and perimeter spaces contributes decisively to the reduction of incidents of offenses, while enhancing the sense of security of thousands of citizens who use public transport daily.

In this context, in the first 8 months of 2025, police officers of the “Ariadne” plan carried out 91,610 checks, 1,539 appeals as well as 1,536 arrests, including theft, robberies, damage, graffiti and violations involving drugs, weapons and illegal stay in the country.

Indicatively, only on September 16, 2025, police officers immediately and effectively addressed the following incidents:

  • At a city bus stop in Kato Patisia, a national was arrested for violating weapons legislation, as a ax and a knife were found and confiscated in his possession.
  • At Panormos Metro Station, a foreigner was arrested, who, together with his associates, approached a couple of tourists causing an artificial overcrowding and removing a sum of money from their possession.
  • At the suburban station in Kato Acharnes, a minor resident was arrested for violating gun legislation, as “Catana” sword is found in his possession.
  • In addition, on 26-09-2025, a person was arrested at the Evangelismos Station for robbery against a national.

The operation of the “ARIADNI” plan is being monitored centrally, with the forces available constantly, depending on the needs that arise, with the aim of preventing and preventing incidents before they occur.

In this context, according to police, the targeted presence of police officers led:

  • Improving the situation on bus lines with increased policing needs, with a reduction of at least 60%.
  • In a significant reduction in incidents of stones (at least 80%).
  • Reduce the number of passengers who do not validate a ticket and increase passenger traffic due to enhanced sense of security.

Finally, it should be noted that, where there is an increase in incidents of theft or damage (eg at metro stations in West Attica and on specific bus lines), the plan is reinforced with additional pedestrian patrols and police personnel, while close cooperation with transportation agencies are continuing to meet special needs.

“The constant presence and coordinated action of police officers in public transport demonstrates the Greek Police’s determination to prevent, prevent and suppress any form of delinquency, protecting the daily lives of citizens in practice,” ELAS said.
