THE EU and the Egypt agreed to strengthen their energy and climate cooperation following yesterday’s wide-ranging consultations between the Executive Vice President Frans Timmermans and members of the Egyptian government in Cairo.
In a joint statement, Executive Vice President Frans Timmermans and Egyptian Foreign Minister and President-designate of the 27th Session of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Sameh Shoukry, stated that they would do their utmost striving for ambitious results in COP27 and that the implementation of the commitments and announcements made at last year’s COP26 in Glasgow will be a priority. They agreed to work together to encourage mobilizing climate finance in developing countries and especially in African countries.
The two sides also agreed to boost co-operation on the supply of liquefied natural gas and green hydrogen and to develop a Mediterranean partnership on green hydrogen, which would include hydrogen trade between Europe, Africa and the Gulf.
