Total Moon Eclipse: The “damn moon” is coming on May 16th

by

A total lunar eclipse will occur on May 16 and is expected to cause a cosmic phenomenon known as the “bloody moon”. According to scientists, the moon will pass in the shadow of the Earth, resulting in most of the world visible in the sky a reddish moon.

The total lunar eclipse will be visible from areas of America, Antarctica, Europe, Africa and the eastern Pacific. There will also be an annular eclipse which will be visible from New Zealand, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. THE NASA will start a live broadcast at 04:32 (16/5) and will include discussions about eclipses, lunar science and the Artemis program of the lunar eclipse service.

The “damn moon” will peak on May 16 at 07:30 Greek time. This will be the first of the two lunar eclipses of 2022. The next one will take place on November 8, 2022 and will be partially visible from Asia, Australia, North America, parts of northern and eastern Europe, the Arctic and most of South America.

Unlike a solar eclipse, which requires certified glasses, a lunar eclipse is a safe event. Also, unlike a solar eclipse, the totality phase lasts much longer than just a few minutes.

Lunar eclipses occur when the moon passes just behind the Earth in its shadow. Since the Earth and the Moon have slightly inclined orbits with each other, this generally happens a few times a year when the inclinations of the orbit are aligned. Depending on how this happens, there is a partial, total or annular eclipse.
