A case of fraud against an elderly woman in Pieria was investigated – How 70,000 euros were taken from her

Case of fraud in elderly woman weightwhich took place last month in Pieria, were investigated by police officers of the Katerini Security sub-directorate, after a methodical investigation.

A case has been opened against a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, citizens of Albania, for the crime of fraud.

On the afternoon of April 19, 2022, an unknown person called the 84-year-old on a landline, pretending to be a police officer and claiming that her daughter had caused a car accident. In fact, a female accomplice appeared on the phone, who allegedly pretended to be the daughter of the elderly woman, in order to become more convincing. She then demanded money from the elderly woman, so that her daughter could allegedly avoid the legal consequences, as a result of which they received the amount of 70,000 euros from the elderly woman’s house.

As part of the investigation, it turned out that the alleged perpetrators went to the house of the elderly woman in the vehicle owned by the man and received the money, where they kept part of it and handed over the rest to an unknown accomplice. It was also found that part of the money they extracted was used to buy a vehicle, which was located and confiscated.

A search of their home turned up mobile phones, tablets, a laptop and a bank card, which were confiscated, as well as the vehicle they used for their illegal activity.

The police investigation continues for their possible involvement in other similar criminal acts, but also for the identification of the details of their accomplices.

The case file that was formed will be submitted to the Prosecutor of the Court of First Instance of Katerini.
