What about the number of students admitted to universities – How many get a degree in Greece

Detailed data for this year number of students admitted to universities government sources point out that 8,324 more students will be enrolled at the university this year.

It is impressive that Greece is unfortunately last in the graduation rate of students, according to Eurostat data.

• The total number of planned positions in the Higher Education Institutions, in ASPAITE and in the Higher Ecclesiastical Academies, for the academic year 2022-2023 is 68,394. In 2021-2022 the candidates admitted to the universities amounted to 60,070.
• The definition and distribution of the number in the individual Departments took into account the following criteria in order to upgrade the quality of the studies provided:

1. The suggestions of the Higher Education Institutions for the number of admissions, in the light of the current institutional framework of the transfers.
2. The rationalization of the distribution system of entrants after the application of the Minimum Import Base.
3. The support of studies in Departments of Higher Education Institutions where there are possibilities for further development, but also with care for the remote areas (eg the Democritus University of Thrace, the University of the Aegean, the University of Western Macedonia have a larger share where the places increased).
4. The connection of higher education with the labor market in combination with geographical development goals for departments with significant potential for absorption of their graduates.

• The universities themselves requested only 47,620 students this year.
• Last year, about 17,000 positions were left vacant in universities, either because of the Minimum Admission Base or because the candidates did not claim them.
• Last year we had a low performance of up to 7,000 points on over 25,000 candidates.
• The Minimum Admission Base (EBE) does not affect the candidates who obtain high scores and enter the School / Department of their choice. Last year, with performances lower than 7 in 20 for GEL and 5.5 in 20 for EPAL, no candidate was admitted to universities (while for example in 2020 a candidate from daily GEL was admitted to universities with 0.625 / 20 and from daily EPAL with 2 , 7/20!).
• Research (Marc, 2021) shows on the one hand the acceptance of EBE in society at a rate of more than 70% but also shows the SYRIZA voters in favor of EBE at a rate of more than 55%. This is the reality: the SYRIZA party in full dimension with society, even with its own electoral base.
• Through the parallel computer that was implemented last year for the first time, for access to public free quality Vocational Training:

1. the total number of candidates with finalized parallel computer last year was very high and amounted to 22,790, of which 26% applied for Public I.E.K. in more than one region.
2. the number of young people aged 18-20 who registered in the Public I.E.K. in 2021 it almost doubled compared to 2020 (from 6,715 to 12,078).

• We remind you that Greece is unfortunately last in the graduation rate of students (9.17% which is far from the European average of 24.05%. (Report “Eurostat- Population in Europe”, June 2020).
