Mitsotakis: Is Erdogan wrong if he thinks I will not defend our sovereign rights

by

A message to the Turkish leadership on the background of recent statements by Tayyip Erdogan was sent from the Davos Economic Forum and his discussion with the President of the Forum, Borge Brende, the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Specifically, he stressed that “with Turkey we are neighbors, we will always need to talk and we will always keep the communication channels open, we will never be the ones to cut off communication with our neighbors. “On the other hand, if President Erdogan thinks that I will not defend Greece’s sovereignty and our sovereign rights, or I will not ‘internationalize’ that Turkey is behaving as a reviewing power, then he has the wrong impression.”

The Prime Minister spoke about an unacceptable practice, when asked to comment on the unprecedented large number of overflights of Turkish fighters over Greek islands.

“I will raise this issue, whenever I am given the opportunity, until Turkey changes its behavior,” said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“Our job was to put Greece back on a path of high growth and we did it through international and domestic investments.

Referring to the developments in the EU after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed that the EU has proved its unity, but also its speed in imposing unprecedented sanctions against Russia.

“The crisis in Ukraine has pushed the EU to think much more strategically, and in this case the issue of the strategy of autonomy, of which I am an ardent supporter before the Russian invasion of Ukraine,” said Mr. Mitsotakis.

“In terms of energy, we now have an additional goal, that of rapid independence from Russia, an operation in which Greece can play an important role as it is a key player in the Eastern Mediterranean.”

“Greece has changed”

Regarding the course of the Greek economy, the Prime Minister said that “Greece, which depended on rescue programs, no longer exists”, noting that the early repayment of IMF loans is one of the strongest indications of how much our country has changed. last 10 years.

Mr. Mitsotakis stressed that he reversed the practice of over-taxation, followed by the previous government and underlined: “Our job was to return Greece to a path of high growth and we did it mainly through international and domestic investments, something in which we succeeded.

And we did it without jeopardizing our fiscal sustainability, because now the economy is growing faster than expected, something that brings more revenue to the state. We have made significant cuts in the legal framework and we have digitized the state, we have reduced the bureaucracy with the Greeks being very happy that they trade with the state through their mobile phone or computer without having to stand in queues “.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis underlined that “we will have finished with the enhanced supervision regime in August, this is a very important milestone, this decision has already been made and we hope that Greece will acquire an investment grade sometime in 2023”.
