The Prime Minister thanked the German Minister of Finance for the praise for the reform agenda of the government, noting that the goal is to deal with all crises at the same time.

The Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a meeting with the German Minister of Finance, Christian Lindner, today at the Maximos Palace.

Addressing Mr. Lindner, Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted: “A lot has changed, I hope for the better, in the country as well, since we took over the government, despite the difficulties. I believe that the country is moving in the right direction.

I would also like to thank you for your public comments, which praise our reform agenda, because for us, what was very important was to be able to face all the crises we had to deal with in the last three years at the same time, but to do not stop implementing reforms that ensure long-term development for the country, such as the digitization of the state, which I know is of great interest to you as well.

As we enter the fourth year of our government term in July, in total I’m quite happy for the progress of reforms.

It also makes me happy that we will get out of it enhanced surveillance mechanism in August. And, of course, our goal remains to return to the investment stage in 2023. And I think it is entirely feasible. So welcome and I’m glad to see you again. “

Lindner: We support the transition from enhanced oversight to regular oversight

For his part, Mr. Lindner stressed that “we really appreciate the effort of the Greek government. I congratulated my colleaguethe Minister of Finance, for the impressive data you are able to present.

The goal of the Greek government is to return to the investment level and also to follow a reliable path, debt restructuring, is very important for us. That is why we support the transition from enhanced supervision to regular supervision.

I think this marks a gradual return to normalcy. And we want to encourage our Greek friends and partners to continue the ambitious reform agenda, as its value and effectiveness have been proven. Thank you very much for the welcome. We look forward to continuing the very close cooperation between the German and Greek governments. “

During the meeting, issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed, with emphasis on the energy sector. Kyriakos Mitsotakis briefed Mr. Lindner on the government’s initiatives to diversify energy sources in the EU, which are turning Greece into an energy hub to the Balkans and Southeastern Europe, as well as a bridge to the Middle East and Africa.

The Prime Minister also spoke about his recent trip to Astypalea and the six-year pilot program of cooperation with the group Volkswagen to upgrade the island to the first “Smart and Sustainable” island in the Mediterranean.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed that the government remains committed to its reform program and economic policy to reduce taxation, create a favorable environment for foreign investment, support the most vulnerable and development orientation, despite the additional pressure on public financially caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
