The series of measures for practical support of working parents was underlined by the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Kostis Hatzidakis during his visit to the Nursery School in Menidi.
The priority of the government for the practical support of the family and the youth parents underlined the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Kostis Hatzidakisduring his visit today to Nursery School of the Public Employment Service (DYPA) in Menidi, accompanied by the commander of DYPA, Spyros Protopsaltis.
The Minister toured the facilities and talked to the staff, who consistently implement educational programs and creative employment programs for children. At the same time, K. Hatzidakis announced that the deadline for electronic submission of applications for registration and re-registration of infants in the nurseries of DYPA is extended, due to the great interest that has been expressed, until Sunday, July 10 at 23:59.
Mr. Hatzidakis reminded that the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is implementing a integrated design for the harmonization of family and professional life and the support of the family.
In particular, as he noted:
• Funding for kindergartens and KDAP increased by 26% (total budget 296 million euros).
• 30,000 more children entered kindergartens and KDAP. From 120,286 children in 2018-2019, 150,787 children in 2021-2022.
• 26,939 children received, in the two years 2020-2022, vouchers through the parallel program of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.
• The program of subsidizing places in kindergartens continues with the new NSRF.
• The creation of 50,000 new places in nurseries and 150 KDAP (9,000 places) are financed, through the Recovery Fund.
• The Neighborhood Nanny program is launched in 33 Municipalities of the country, which financially supports working parents for the home care of infants and toddlers aged from 2 months to 2.5 years.
• The creation of 120 childcare facilities within large companies for infants aged 6 months to 2.5 years, of working parents is underway.
• The extension of the all-day school until 5:30 in the afternoon is financed by 50% from the funds of the NSRF program of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.
• The law on Occupational Protection extended parental leave (introduction of paternity leave for the first time, coverage by the DYPA of the cost of parental leave for both parents for two months, etc.). At the same time, arrangements have been adopted that make it easier for parents to ask their employers for adjustments in their working time, which will better serve the care needs of their children.
The specific kindergarten in Menidi, visited by the Minister, hosts, this school year, 50 children, 16 infants and 34 infants. Next school year will host 74 children (24 infants and 50 toddlers). It is one of the 26 privately owned Nursery Schools of DYPA that operate within the borders of N. Attica and in 18 large provincial cities and Municipalities with a large workforce and are addressed to infants from 6 months to 4 years with working parents ( Monday to Friday, 6:45 to 16:00).
In Attica, there are DYPA nurseries in the Municipalities: Agia Varvara, Ano Liossia, Elefsina, Keratsini, Menidi, Moschato, Olympic Village and Peristeri. In the rest of Greece they operate in the cities: Agrinio, Arta, Drama, Igoumenitsa, Ioannina, Kavala, Kalamata, Karditsa, Karpenisi, Komotini, Larissa, Messolonghi, Naoussa, Xanthi, Patras, Pylaria, Thessaloniki.
