Georgiadis for “Turkaegean”: We will cancel the registration – “Turkish Aegean” was advertised on Tsipras

by

The Minister of Development states “to tell Mr. Tsipras that of course during his tenure the Turks were advertising the” Turkish Aegean “and then (the photo is from 2018) he neither went anywhere on foot nor protested anywhere”.

“We will do what we have to do legally to cancel this registration and we will achieve it,” assures the Minister of Development and Investment Adonis Georgiades by posting it on social media “for all the failure to register the term” Turkaegean “as a trademark by Turkey”.

Among other things, the minister notes that “the Turks applied directly to the European Organization and not to us, there an examiner from a northern country, saw the issue purely bureaucratically, ie found that no one else had registered this mark and gave it to the first applicant, ie in this case in Turkey. By the same token, thousands of trademarks are automatically registered every day. “There has been no approval from a higher political level, nor is the Commission or the EU responsible. All this has been done at a low bureaucratic level and there has been no political reaction.” He adds that the services of the Ministry of Development and Investment here had no jurisdiction either to approve or cut it and the EDE was ordered “not necessarily to punish someone, but to see what went wrong in the process and to let’s fix it “.

The minister emphasizes that “the hypocrisy of my political opponents in this matter and their attempt to exterminate me politically once again this time exceeded all limits. Suddenly from a “dangerous far-right nationalist” as I was constantly accused all these years, now I became a “traitor” and “Turkadonis”. Note that this “sensitivity” was possessed by parties and people who believe that “the sea has no borders”, that “the Aegean belongs to its fish” accounts and parties that incessantly accuse Greece for the alleged pushbacks, adopting the whole Turkish propaganda for the Aegean, suddenly got angry supposedly for a brand… Hypocrites…

The Minister of Development even states “to tell Mr. Tsipras that of course during his tenure the Turks advertised the “Turkish Aegean” and then (the photo is from 2018) he neither went anywhere on foot nor protested anywhere “.

The minister states in detail the following:

“For the Turkaegean

First in politics when something goes wrong, you are responsible you are not responsible you have to show bravery and apologize. We do not do everything perfectly nor do we always know everything. So I apologized to those who were genuinely upset with our State’s belated reaction to Turkey granting this term “Turkaegean”, although I never backed down, I was never informed and I did not react or I could have prevented it and I did not. Of course we will do what is done at the legal level to cancel it and I believe that with the right legal arguments we will achieve it.

But we must put the debate on this issue in its proper dimensions away from the ridiculousness of the press that “I would walk around” of the man who made Prespa known the name of Macedonia (and not a simple brand ). And hypocrisy must have some limits.

So let’s look at this case in order:

A) the registration of this trademark is not violated by any of our National Sovereignty and no, the Turks did not take our Aegean. In fact, we still, now probably with indirect Turkish recognition, still have the full prefecture of the authentic, Greek from ancient times, the term “Aegean”.

B) the Turks applied directly to the European Agency and not to us, there an examiner from a northern country, saw the matter purely bureaucratic, ie found that no one else had registered this mark and gave it to the first applicant, ie to this case in Turkey. By the same token, thousands of trademarks are automatically registered every day. There has been no approval from a higher political level, neither the Commission nor the EU has any responsibility, nor has Europe and various other nonsense been sold to us. All this was done at a low bureaucratic level hence and there was no political reaction.

C) the services of our Ministry here had no jurisdiction either to approve it or to cut it.

D) since it is so, why did I order the SAD? Because none of this service informed the political leadership, so that we could decide whether or not we would like to object to this Mark. The EDE is therefore not done necessarily to punish someone, but to see what went wrong in the process and to correct it. Obviously I do not question the patriotism of any and probably not any employee of our Ministry or other Ministries. But the opportunity is from this mistake, to change the way we work. These will be exactly indicated to us by the conclusion of EDE.

E) as Minister I had gone to Parliament at an unsuspecting time and I had explained that this service was not working as well as I would have liked and I abolished it, transferring its responsibilities to the Industrial Property Organization, with an extremely better level of operation. This responsibility was transferred to OBI in May this year, ie after the events. After that, OBI has not and could not have anything to do with this story.

F) the hypocrisy of my political opponents on this issue and their attempt to once again politically exterminate me this time exceeded all limits. Suddenly from a “dangerous far-right nationalist” as I was constantly accused all these years, I now became a “traitor” and “Turk’Adonis”.

Finally, let us tell Mr. Tsipras that, of course, during his tenure, the Turks were advertising the “Turkish Aegean” and then (the photo is from 2018) he neither went anywhere on foot nor protested anywhere.
“Finally, I repeat, because this really bothers us, we will do what we have to do legally to cancel this registration and we will succeed.”
