Calafatis for the Day of Remembrance of Thracian Hellenism: A debt is committed to the Thracians

by

“The national, historical and social significance of the establishment of April 6 as the Day of Remembrance of Thracian Hellenism”, emphasized the Deputy Minister of the Interior

As Deputy Minister of the Interior responsible for Macedonia and Thrace, I express my joy, honor and emotion because through this bill of the Ministry of the Interior, the establishment of April 6 as the Day of Remembrance of Thracian Hellenism is established. I emphasize the very great national, historical and social importance of this regulation. Because the establishment of April 6 as the Day of Remembrance of Thracian Hellenism contributes on the one hand to the preservation of historical memory and on the other hand to the internationalization of a historically confirmed event: The systematic extermination of the Greeks of Thrace – and especially of Eastern Romilia – which prepared the practices and policies that were adopted and applied against Pontic and Asia Minor Hellenism. At last, the due honor is paid and the debt towards our long-suffering Thracians is fulfilled. And this is being done by this Government, by the Government of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and we are very proud of it“, emphasized the Deputy Minister of the Interior, responsible for Macedonia and Thrace, Mr. Stavros Kalafatis, in his intervention in the Plenary of the Parliament during the discussion of the Draft Law of the Ministry of the Interior “Supplementary measures for the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2019_788 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the European Citizens’ Initiative and Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019_1799 establishing technical specifications for the individual online aggregation systems – Provisions related to the electoral process and the control of income and expenditure of parties, coalitions and candidates for parliament and electors – Other provisions of the Ministry of the Interior”.

Referring to the provisions of the bill for Local Self-Government, Mr. Kalafatis pointed out: “Regarding the rest of the articles and provisions of the bill, what is actually being done is to bring order, to make a settlement in matters of Administration and especially Self-Government. Those who know well the issues of Self-Government – and I have personal experience as I have been a member of the Municipal Council for ten years – they find that what has been done in the last three years systematically, methodically, targeted and effectively is that the Local Self-Government is slowly “waking up” from an almost total paralysis that it had fallen into during the years of SYRIZA’s rule of the country. And what is happening now with this Local Government Bill is yet another revitalizing injection so that we can even more effectively operate such an important institution that is a pillar of the orderly operation of the entire country. And of course e we are proud and that is why we owe it to the Government, to the Minister Mr. Makis Voridis, to all those who participated in the structuring of this very important bill”.
