PASOK’s response to the pressure it receives from ND and SYRIZA is to speed up the party’s programming work. According to information, Nikos Christodoulakis has finished writing the financial proposals and with the meeting of the Parliamentary Group and the Political Council (in about a week) the consultation with the executives will begin.
A major event is also being planned, possibly in Crete, to kick off the discussion of the program with citizens. If there is no electoral surprise in September, party sources emphasize that in the first month of autumn, the party base will be “rewarmed” with a series of events in all regions.
The programming conference of PASOK is planned to be held in October.
The Text of Programmatic Positions that will be at the center of the joint meeting is a continuation, expansion and deepening of the text of the Programmatic Framework that was presented last spring and put to electronic public consultation. The new complex text contains issues for the country’s development strategy with absolute priority being the strengthening of domestic added value.
Modernization, digitization and sustainable development policies with innovation and extroversion are proposed for the sectors of manufacturing, the agricultural sector, tourism, culture, energy networks and transport with the main source of financing being the underutilized resources of the Recovery Fund.
A plan is also presented for the complete and smooth decarbonization of energy production, siting of industrial facilities with modern standards and environmental protection. Funding plans are foreseen for small and medium enterprises and start-ups. A special place is occupied by the chapter on “Digital Greece”, a holistic plan for a digital economy and society accompanied by a package of reforms and not just piecemeal digitization of public functions.
The program also advances proposals for the development of the domestic defense and shipbuilding industry in order for Greece to utilize the large defense expenditures with a benefit for the national economy and jobs.
The plan presented by PASOK for the housing policy for young couples with the construction of thousands of houses from the Recovery Fund with the simultaneous support of Labor, in all its modern forms (digital platforms etc.) with rules and dignity, is presented in detail.
For Health, proposals are included for a sufficiently staffed and organized Primary Care and Preventive Health system, as well as an increase in ICUs. In the field of pensions, it is proposed to restore the EKAS that PASOK established.
Regarding the fiscal outlook, according to information from Harilaou Trikoupi, emphasis is placed on better revenue collection and wealth taxation with restraint and assessment of public consumption spending (which skyrocketed during ND). Withdrawal of investment funds from the Recovery Fund. Most of the positions concern a series of reforms in the State and Public Administration and Self-Government for more transparency and meritocracy through the use of digital technology
