The minister said that ELAS will assist the fire department’s investigations to see if it was arson.
“The time when the fire broke out and the place from where it started create very serious questions,” he characteristically said, speaking to the Minister of Protection Takis Theodorikakos.
Mr. Theodorikakos emphasized her assistance and self-sacrifice THE GREEK POLICE in the fires that occurred, while he noted that over 900 police officers were mobilized within two days and freed approximately 680 people, while also helping to evacuate the area.
“The Greek Police has a clear operational plan, which it implements to the letter, with self-sacrifice and efficiency. The job of the police when fires break out is to regulate traffic, help evacuate settlements and protect human life and people’s property,” he pointed out.
At the same time, he declared himself satisfied with the mobilization of the state mechanism to deal with the fire and spoke of “resolute implementation of the operational plan” in cooperation with the Ministry of Civil Protection.
“The fire was dealt with effectively. We executed a special plan to prevent looting of people’s properties,” he said, and addressing the criticisms received by the government, he replied: “The opposition should stop being so sour.”
The minister also mentioned that more than 90 police officers are patrolling vulnerable areas of the basin to prevent fires, while he emphasized that reforms are being made to make the work of ELAS more effective.
Finally, he said that ELAS will assist in the fire department’s investigations to see if it was arson.
“A big thank you to the men and women of ELAS for the great work they did. They saved people,” the minister said in closing.
