KYSEA: Extension of the fence on the Evros and reinforcement of surveillance systems

The KYSEA met for two hours under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis – The problem of the increasing pressure for illegal entry into the country from both our land and sea borders was discussed.

The situation in Evros was at the center of the KYSEA meeting which met for two hours today at noon under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

After Turkey’s latest moves that show a resurgence of “mobility” at the country’s land borders with the exploitation of the islets in the river, the KYSEA decided the gradual expansion of the fence along the entire length of the Evros, with priority at disputed points, as determined by the co-competent Ministries and the GEETHA.

The procedure to be followed is the tender for a framework agreement.

It was also decided to upgrade and strengthen the means of surveillance.

Today’s regular meeting of the KYSEA was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias, the Minister of National Defense Nikos Panagiotopoulos, the Minister of Citizen Protection Takis Theodorikakos, the Minister of Immigration and Asylum Notis Mitarakis (who by decision of the Prime Minister will participate in the meetings of the KYSEA) , the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Yiannis Plakiotakis, the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Christos Stylianidis, the Minister of State Giorgos Gerapetritis, the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and Government Spokesman Yiannis Oikonomou, the Commander of the EYP Themistoklis Demiris, the Chief of the GLEETHA General Forostinos , the Director of the Diplomatic Office of the Prime Minister Ambassador Anna Maria Boura and the National Security Advisor Thanos Dokos.
