Mitsotakis to UEFA president: We will do whatever is necessary to solve the problems in Greek football

The Prime Minister reiterated Greece’s position that it is opposed to the formation of the closed European Super League by the sports powers

The determination of the government to do “whatever is necessary” in order to solve the chronic problems plaguing Greek football, told UEFA president Alexander Ceferin Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The prime minister was welcomed to Maximos Palace the head of the European Football Federation, with whom he discussed all current issues concerning the most popular sport.

Mr. Seferin thanked the prime minister for Greece’s firm position against the formation of a closed European Super League by some big clubs and before the Court of Justice of the European Union. The initiatives undertaken by the government, in collaboration with UEFA and FIFA, to solve the problems faced by Greek football were also discussed.

At the beginning of the meeting, the prime minister told Mr. Seferin that the Hellas is “clearly moving in the right direction” to address issues affecting football and expressed the government’s determination to resolve “all outstanding issues”. He also noted that “to the extent that we can intervene, respecting the independence of the Federation, we will do whatever is necessary to ensure that we put behind us all the problems that we have inherited.”

“We have your support, we have the right orientation and guidance and we will succeed,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis added.
