Senator Raptakis: Americans have lost confidence in Erdogan’s government

by

The lack of trust in the US towards the Turkish government of Tayyip Erdogan was pointed out by Leonidas Raptakis, Greek-American Senator (Rhode Island) speaking on SKAI TV and the show “Today”.

“First of all, the Congress does not have confidence in Erdogan, in the Turkish government, to separate the Turkish people we support, but what is happening is very dangerous for the Eastern Mediterranean,” he said.

According to the Senator, the American people do not trust Erdogan either, especially after the incident in 2016 with Turkish officers leaving the US embassy to hit American citizens. “If you say Erdogan – Greece, they support Greece 10 times more,” he said characteristically.

Mr. Raptakis stressed that the 43 Greek-Americans elected in 20 US states, Republicans and Democrats, are united and assure that they are ready to help Greece and Cyprus in all matters.

He pointed out that they managed to “block” the delivery of the F-35, while regarding the Turkish proposal for the F-16, he said that letters have been sent to both Anthony Blinken and Joe Biden himself. According to the Senator, the letter emphasizes that Turkey is not a good neighbor in the region.

He attributed the Turkish provocations to Erdogan’s domestic political front and expressed confidence that there would be no heated incident, but did not rule out the possibility of a “mistake”. However, he assured that the USA will be next to Greece.
