Interview in the context of the 86th Thessaloniki International Exhibition.

The press conference given by the president of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance is in progress Alexis Tsipras in the context of the 86th Thessaloniki International Exhibition.

Interventions in energy with the renationalisation of PPC, reduction of VAT on food, 800 euro minimum wage and reinstatement of the 13th pension, are some of the proposals included in the announcements made yesterday by Alexis Tsipras during his speech at the TIF.

The first question he received concerned the criticism of the cost of the measures he announced yesterday in his speech. He replied that they are priced, they are not far from what Mr. Mitsotakis announced, but the model, the method, is different. Mr. Mitsotakis takes from the middle class in order to subsidize the profiteering on electricity prices. We will tax the filthy lucre. Taxes increased by €7 billion in the last six months. The prime minister says he has given 50 billion since the start of the pandemic. Where did that money go? We unfortunately managed bankruptcy and left 27 billion thanks to which the country is out of the water. The money went to direct assignments and closed tenders. If a program of courageous choices is not implemented, what will be the next day in the country? How will we deal with the risk of a humanitarian crisis?

For the interceptions and the request to convene the institutions committee and the summoning of witnesses to the Inquest, why hasn’t he gone to the President of the Republic? Wiretapping is a critical issue concerning the Republic itself. This is an anti-democratic diversion. In no other country would this happen. Mr. Mitsotakis owed it from the moment he admitted to monitoring a political leader and a journalist (we also have the case of Mr. Spirtzis’ former minister), it is not possible after all this to give political responsibility to his nephew. This is political cowardice. The ND parliamentary group cannot accept joint responsibility for the anti-democratic diversion. In any other country, we would have had the resignation of Mr. Mitsotakis. I have every reason to go to elections with Mr. Mitsotakis facing me. I do not want to identify the ND party with such undemocratic functions and attitudes. For PtD: I have no problem with it, life itself puts the problems. What should I ask for? Resign the prime minister? I expect from her a clear, public position, at least with regard to the invocation of privacy, which demeans the parliamentary process. It demeans every concept of democracy and democratic responsibility.
