Mitsotakis to US MPs: “Greece is not going to accept a violation of its sovereignty”

Meeting with a bipartisan delegation of the United States House of Representatives, led by the Chairman of the Committee on Military Affairs, Adam Smiththe prime minister had today, Tuesday Kyriakos Mitsotakisin the presence of the US Ambassador, George Tsunis.

During the meeting, Kyriakos Mitsotakis underlined the exceptional level of Greek-American relations and the strategic relationship between Greece and the USA. He also highlighted the progress that has been made in terms of military cooperation between the two countries, based on the second Amendment Protocol to the Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement (MDCA). In addition, he emphasized the role of Greece as a pillar of stability, peace and security in the wider region.

The Prime Minister emphasized its strategic importance Alexandroupolis and in terms of energy supply and energy security. He also emphasized that Greece, in addition to being a gateway for the influx of energy into Europe, is also becoming a data management and storage hub with investments from companies such as Amazon, Microsoft and Google.

The instrumentalization of energy at the expense of Europe on the part of Russia was also discussed. Kyriakos Mitsotakis informed the delegation of American parliamentarians about the support measures implemented by Greece at the national level, as well as about the proposal to impose a ceiling on the wholesale price of natural gas, which, on a Greek initiative, has the support of an additional 14 states- members of the EU.
