Turkey: New ambassador in Athens, Tsagatai Ertsiges

He participated in the Turkish delegation during the 64th round of exploratory talks that took place in Athens last February. At the head of the Turkish delegation was the then Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sedat Onal, who now takes the position of Turkey’s representative to the UN in place of Feridun Sinirlioglu.

Tsagatai Ertziges entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1988 in the Office of Greece. He became Deputy Director-General of Shipping-Aviation, Permanent Representative of Turkey to the International Civil Aviation Organization, based in Montreal, on September 1, 2012, and Ambassador to Beirut in 2015.

He served as a member of the Turkish delegation to the UN negotiations on Cyprus in 2004 and to the exploratory talks with Greece on the Aegean issues.

Since December 2018 he is the General Director of Cyprus-Greece, Shipping-Aviation and Borders. He is the one who in 2020 posted the well-known Turkish “map” of the TYPEX where it shows the “new limits of the Turkish continental shelf” which reach as far as Rhodes, Karpathos, Kasos and Crete, eliminating Kastelorizo. He also provided a map with the areas for which the Turkish oil company TRAO is seeking permission for exploration and drilling.
