Annoyance in Ankara by Mitsotakis response to the unprovoked Erdogan attack – European pressures changed the attitude of the Turkish president – From “Mitsotakis yoke” to “we hope in the future we will find an opportunity to talk”
Irritation is intense on the Turkish side after the tension caused during the leaders’ dinner in Prague.
As reported by the SKAI correspondent in Istanbul, Manolis KostidisErdogan appeared irritated by the clear response he received from the Greek prime minister to the unprovoked attack on Greece he launched during the dinner, as the Turkish side did not expect Kyriakos Mitsotakis to respond.
According to what Manolis Kostidis said, after Erdoğan’s accusations that Greece is the one threatening, Kyriakos Mitsotakis replied that “morning, noon and night you cannot threaten the sovereignty of my country and come here and accuse Greece . If you want us to talk as serious people, let’s sit down and discuss.”
A few minutes after the Greek prime minister’s answer, Erdogan left the dinner, a move that was not appreciated positively by the other leaders, who were present and eyewitnesses to the attitude of the Turkish president.
Message from Macron
The mood for Erdogan was heavy early on. Before dinner he had a bilateral meeting with Emmanuel Macron, on the sidelines of the Prague Synod.
There, Mr French president expressed his “concern”. on the situation in the Aegean and “called for the resumption of dialogue between the sides in order to avoid escalation and preserve respect for international law”, as stated in the announcement issued by the Elysee Palace.
Macron also insisted that it is necessary for countries to fight so that sanctions against Russia are not circumvented.
“He underlined the importance of the European sanctions regime in order to put an end to the escalation (on behalf of Russia) and asked to fight against any strategic circumvention of them,” the statement said.
Displacement, but also threats at the press conference
Following these, after the pressures of the Europeans and the Mitsotakis response, a change of attitude in the policy of Recep Tayyip Erdogan became evident, however, there were also threats from his position during the press conference that was given afterwards.
From the “Mitsotakis yoke” we reached “we hope in the future to find an opportunity to talk” and to “we are not threatening any country”, as Manolis Kostidis commented.

Specifically, in xofficial press conference that followed the episodic dinner of the leaders in Prague, Erdoğan said: “We currently have nothing to say with Greece. We leave it to time and in time we hope to find some opportunity to talk.”
Also, at another point in his interview, he stated that “Turkey has no ambitions for the sovereignty, territories, or rights of any country”.
However, when asked about the now well-known threat “we will come suddenly one night, the Turkish president replied that it does not only apply to Greece, but also to all those who threaten us”.

“You got the point right. This does not only apply to Greece. Whichever country bothers us and attacks us, our answer is ‘we can come suddenly one night’. This is how they should know it, understand it. Since you understood it that way, they understood it too.”
