Athens and Nicosia had signed an agreement for the grant of the know-how of the ERGANI 2 information system
Meeting with the president of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis the Minister of Labor had on Tuesday in Nicosia Kostis Hatzidakiswith the aim of implementing the ERGANI 2 program, the Digital Work Card in Cyprus as well.
The visit of Mr. Hatzidakis to Cyprus came in continuation of the agreement signed by the Ministries of Labor of Greece and Cyprus at the end of September in Athens for the concession of the know-how of the information system TOOL II and the Digital Work Card, so as to be applied in Cyprus. For this purpose, the Minister of Labor was accompanied by a group of officials – headed by General Secretary of Labor Relations Anna Stratinaki – who have already started to cooperate with the officials of the Ministry of Labor of Cyprus, with the aim of creating in the country a system corresponding to the one implemented already in Greece, adapted to the needs of the Cypriot labor market.
The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis, who welcomed Mr. Hatzidakis at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, expressed his satisfaction with the agreement, which constitutes yet another seal of the close relations between Greece and Cyprus at all levels. As he emphasized, “The Digital Work Card is a tool we need to control undeclared work and protect workers, and the continuation of our cooperation in this field is for the benefit of the Republic of Cyprus”.
The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, Kostis Hatzidakis, emphasized that “We are particularly happy to contribute substantially to something that will help the Republic of Cyprus to control undeclared and undeclared work. In Greece we have the ERGANI program, now it is technologically upgraded to ERGANI II and combined with the Digital Work Card. This is an electronic tool that has already started to be implemented and with which we can guarantee that the employee’s hours will be respected, his overtime will be recorded and on the other hand there will be a fair competition between businesses. That is, those who steal hours from the employee’s schedule will not have a competitive advantage. For us, it has a positive reception and we are glad that Cyprus is coming to implement this system. It will be useful for both workers and their rights and businesses, and we are at your disposal to continue and intensify this cooperation.”
The Minister of Labor of Cyprus Kyriakos Kousios, for his part, thanked Mr. Hatzidakis for his assistance, stressing that the Greek side’s response was immediate and expressing his belief that “very soon we will have the results of the agreement”, with the implementation of ERGANI II and the Digital Work Card in Cyprus as well. “The cooperation of our countries is a given at all levels and we thank the Greek government for its continuous support in all the issues we face as a state”, concluded Mr. Kousios.
Finally, it is noted that as part of his visit to Cyprus, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs also met with the Speaker of the Cypriot Parliament Annita Dimitriou as well as the head of the Democratic Alert Party (DISY) and candidate for the presidency of the Republic of Cyprus Averof Neophytou.
