Egyptian ambassador: “Athens-Cairo relations are strategic”

The relations between Greece and Egypt were described as strategic by the Egyptian ambassador Omar Amer Yusef during a press briefing in Athens. During the discussion with journalists, the Egyptian ambassador to Greece underlined that the strategic bilateral relations are supported by the leaderships of Athens and Cairo and highlighted their various aspects, making special reference to the electrical interconnection of the two countries and the draft agreement to regulate seasonal work for Egyptians in the agricultural sector.

Further, Omar Amer Youssef emphasized that the two countries have the potential to expand their cooperation in other areas, including the fields of culture, trade and tourism.

In fact, he welcomed his planned participation Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the COP27 Conference, which Egypt will host next week in Sharm El Sheikh.

Referring to the COP27 international conference, he emphasized that it is considered the main one of 2022 and the most important forum for world leaders to address issues related to the environment. He said that the fact that the prime minister will chair one of the most important high-level round table discussions of the Conference is another proof of the special relations between the two countries.

He also noted that the visit of Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Egypt it follows a practice of regular consultations and cooperation between the two sides, through bilateral and trilateral meetings, the latest of which was the meeting of Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias Dendias with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry in Cairo last month.

Finally, the ambassador of Egypt in Greece assured that the Embassy wishes to liaise with all stakeholders, especially the media, and build the necessary partnership that will ensure that adequate information is provided. He pointed out that the briefing should not only cover the usual political and economic issues, but should also be expanded to convey to Greeks and Europeans the various developments in Egypt, such as the grand projects, the new administrative capital, the economic zone and the logistics center in the Suez Canal, the Great Egyptian Museum and many other aspects of the Republic of Egypt, in a way that reflects the special relations between the two peoples and the existing strategic cooperation between the two countries.

According to an embassy statement, the ambassador’s discussion with reporters covered the flourishing bilateral relations between Egypt and Greece, the progress the two countries have made in recent years, and how these strategic relations can help both countries to implement of the expectations of their peoples amid regional and international developments and the role of the media.
