The Turkish presidency has so far not reacted to the Prime Minister’s statement that “if I had 85% inflation, I would like to change the subject”
Disturbance in Turkey, and especially in the pro-government media, was caused by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ statement yesterday that “if I had 85% inflation, I would like to change the subject”.
Mitsotakis’ answer did not particularly go down well with the neighbor, even though the pro-government media avoids making extensive reports.
The opposition newspaper Suju talks about “irony from Mitsotakis to ErdoÄŸan for 85% inflation,” quoting his statements in detail.
The Son Dakika website reports that this statement may… “increase the tension, may irritate the Turkish president”, as it “touches” him at a sensitive point, in his unpopular economic policy, for which analysts they report that it has completely failed.
For its part, the T24 website comments that Mitsotakis targeted Turkey again, this time he satirized inflation and claims that the Turkish government is changing its agenda.
It is noted, as reported by SKAI’s Istanbul correspondent Manolis Kostidis, that the Turkish presidency so far has not reacted in the Prime Minister’s statement, and perhaps many Turkish media are waiting for the official position.
The SKAI journalist stated that the official inflation reached 85%, in reality it exceeds 100% and in some goods 140% and 150%.
