More specifically, the new provisions facilitate the exchange of information derived from Criminal Records between the competent authorities of the member states in an efficient, fast and accurate manner.

The bill of the Ministry of Justice for the special criminal register of offenses against minors was submitted to the Parliament. According to an announcement by the Ministry of Justice, the controversial bill includes a provision for a special part of the Criminal Record for the crimes provided for in the articles:

– 299 (homicide with intent),

-306 (exposure to risk),

-312 (bodily harm to a weak person),

-323A (human trafficking),

-324 (abduction of minors),

– in Chapter 19 of the Special Part of the Criminal Code [ν. 4619/2019] which concerns crimes against sexual freedom and crimes of economic exploitation of sexual life

– in Law 3500/2006 on dealing with domestic violence, when these crimes are directed at a minor.

These regulations aim, according to the announcement, to further protect minors, when the legal goods of sexual freedom, personal freedom, life and physical integrity are violated. Thus, a database is created, which provides further guarantees of the protection of minors, to public or private bodies whose object concerns the protection, care, treatment and education of minors.

Furthermore, these provisions are harmonized with Article 5 of the Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (Lanzarote Convention) which has been ratified by Greece with Law 3727/2008. At the same time, the bill incorporates into national legislation Directive (EU) 2019/884 regarding the exchange of information on third-country nationals and the European Criminal Record Information System.

More specifically, the new provisions facilitate the exchange of information derived from Criminal Records between the competent authorities of the member states in an efficient, fast and accurate manner.

Furthermore, the identification of convicted third-country nationals and stateless persons is sought, in order to allow identification by Member States that have information about their previous convictions.

In addition, the free movement of persons in the EU is served. and taking appropriate measures to prevent and combat crime and in particular organized crime and terrorism.
