The war that SYRIZA has declared against the government on the issue of surveillance is expected to intensify until the elections. Along with accuracy, the official opposition will have the two issues high on its agenda. Speaking on the central news bulletin of STAR, Alexis Tsipras fiercely attacked the prime minister, talking about repeated coincidences which are now evidence of guilt. “Mr. Mitsotakis, instead of pretending to be indignant, should come to the Parliament and give answers. And Mr.Mitsotakis hiding. He is hiding from the Parliament, he did not come when we were discussing the conclusion of the Inquiry. He was hidden from the Committee of the European Parliament, PEGA, to give answers. He did not come to Parliament last week to give answers to the question I asked, and he is not coming to Parliament today to give answers again after the latest revelations,” he said. Keeping his tone high, the president of SYRIZA added: “Have you seen anyone innocent hiding? The culprits are hiding, Mr. Zachareas. The innocent come to light and give evidence.”

Mr. Tsipras accused Kyriakos Mitsotakis of invoking secrecy, hiding critical witnesses and “threatening anyone who tells the truth with 10 years in prison.” According to the president of SYRIZA, the operation of the illegal software is not under the control of a private individual, as it could possibly be the case in the past, but is done in synergy with a center that had an interface with the National Intelligence Service and the Maximos Palace, with the political head of Mr. .Mitsotakis. The leader of the official opposition explained that two things can happen: “If the prime minister did not know all this then he will be a prime minister of reduced attribution. So a prime minister is insufficient to rule the country. If he knew, he would be a truly insecure, ruthless and dangerous prime minister.”

Alexis Tsipras’s answers on the wiretapping case were absolutely aimed at Kyriakos Mitsotakis, making it clear that he will insist on the question he has submitted to the Parliament: “is there a politician among the 33 who was also monitored by the EYP?”. “The prime minister who is accused of such an unconstitutional deviation cannot have the audacity to talk about mud and toxicity. Toxic is the one who has divided”, he added.

The president of SYRIZA also referred to the prosecutor of the EYP V. Vlachos. He said that “Mrs. Vlachou boldly came to the Temple of the Republic and told us that I have an uncontrollable crisis and if I like I can sign for the President of the Republic to be monitored.” Concluding on the matter, he spoke of the abolition of the democratic function.

Andreas Patsis

Mr. Tsipras was also asked about the expelled New Democracy MP Andreas Patsis. He characterized this specific case as “the tip of the iceberg” as he pointed out that “the party that owes 390 million to the banks, that has a cabinet that has about 12-13 million euros in debt all together, is a party that has adopted as a solution to the problem of bad loans, the collection companies like Patsis. And he has filled the whole market with Patsis.”

Economy

Alexis Tsipras was once again critical of Maximos’ economic policy. “The excellent ones have gone to sea,” he characteristically said. Regarding the accuracy in the market, the president of SYRIZA insisted that the reduction of the VAT on food and the VAT on fuel would be a significant breather for households whose purchasing power has decreased by 40%. He called for greater controls on the market and blamed the financial staff for continuing to make excessive profits from energy companies. “Only in October and September the electricity providers had a surplus of 1 billion euros”, he noted. He stated, in fact, that Greece, based on Eurostat data, is the most expensive country in terms of electricity costs before government subsidies.

Partnerships

On the issue of cooperation, he argued that in the simple proportional ballot box, all voters will know that the political forces should cooperate based on their programs. “We call on the citizens to make us the first force in the simple proportional ballot box to have a government from the first election.” The second time will be “otherwise”, he pointed out because SYRIZA will not have to operate under the commission and the troika.
