Analysis of the data provided by the Pulse poll for SKAI – Accuracy is what the parties focus on

THE Kyriakos Mitsotakis toured for two days in Achaia, in the “castle” of SYRIZA that kept it pink in the 2019 elections. Alexis Tsipras he tries to erase the imprints left by the Prespa Agreement in Macedonia and has successively visited Serres and Pella. The clash of political leaders is culminating in a quest, this time, to win as much as they can in the polls at the dawn of 2023 and enter the “fields of their opponent”.

The government is relying on the reflexes it has shown to intercept accuracy in order to maintain a safe distance from SYRIZA. In the Pulse poll, carried out on behalf of SKAI television, in the intention to vote with a recall on the valid ones, New Democracy loses half a point compared to the October measurement and is recorded at 33%. At 7% is the difference with SYRIZA which neither loses nor wins and remains at 26%. No change is recorded by PASOK at 11.5%, KKE at 5.5% and Hellenic Solution at 4%. MePA25 appears strengthened by half a unit, reaching again the “psychological limit” of 3% that gives it the ticket for the Parliament.

Where do the parties pay much attention? In the accuracy and in the big appreciations. The winter will be difficult, so the tours of all political leaders are necessarily accompanied by a visit to the market. In the question of how concerned you are about the increases in electricity, 88% say a lot and a lot. At the same levels and in percentages of 87% and 86%, citizens are concerned by the price increases in fuel and food respectively. The government believes that the “household basket” will show its usefulness in the next period and will bring results to the citizens’ pockets. Crime, Greek-Turkish and immigration follow. Wiretapping may be last on the list, but around one in two respondents (47%) say they are concerned by the information and reports flooding the media in recent days. By party audience, the respondents who declare to be New Democracy voters state that they are “very or quite” worried about surveillance by 30%. This percentage rises significantly among the surveyed supporters of SYRIZA (72%). The fact, however, that causes great interest is that his voters PASOK only 43% are worried about wiretapping despite the fact that the president of the Movement raised the issue and was the victim of wiretapping of his telephone conversations.

In the important indicator of the performance of victory, which determines the environment in which the country is led to the polls each time, there is no substantial change. Citizens, regardless of party preference, believe at a rate of 55% that New Democracy will win the next elections and SYRIZA at 27%.

The pre-election period has already taken on leadership characteristics, so what counts is the opinion of the citizens on who can best manage major crises. According to the Pulse poll, Kyriakos Mitsotakis can deal with the issues of development and the economy better by 35%, Alexis Tsipras by 26% and Nikos Androulakis 10% The picture for the energy crisis is roughly the same, but where the prime minister excels is in foreign policy and defense. 43% of the respondents favor his management ability. Alexis Tsipras is preferred by 26% and Nikos Androulakis by 6%. The cases of surveillance and the deletion of Andreas Patsis from the N.D. they seem to have worked in favor of the president of SYRIZA, as 28% support that he can better deal with transparency issues compared to 27% of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and 12% of Nikos Androulakis.

According to many, the dilemma in the simple proportional polls will also have to do with the new governance model. Alliances between political forces or self-reliance? Things, according to Pulse, are more or less balanced with 44% favoring autonomous governments and 37% favoring cooperative ones. Regarding the time of the elections, the Prime Minister from Patras may have made it clear that he is not thinking of a surprise, but it seems that the electorate is divided. For this reason and moreover, the information indicates that there are enough members of the cabinet who insist that the political developments should run faster. 24% want the elections to be held in the spring of 2023, 32% want earlier and 32% want New Democracy to reach the end of next July when its constitutional term ends.
